This Weekend in Beaumont & the Pass: Oct 17–18

By Sam Silver · Local Guide & Community Advocate

Looking for something to do this weekend in Beaumont and the San Gorgonio Pass? Saturday, October 17 is the biggest Halloween preview of the season: the free Monster Mash Halloween Party fills the Chatigny Community Recreation Center with carnival games, a haunted maze, a petting zoo, and a magician, the Cultural Alliance of the Pass brings its family-friendly Fall Festival Spooktacular to the Banning Woman's Club, and the Inland Empire Fall Festival celebrates the season in San Bernardino. Farther east, the 90th Annual Pioneer Days parade rolls through Twentynine Palms and Modernism Week's fall edition lights up Palm Springs. In the Pass Area, Lavender Nights at 123 Farm still glows with over half a million lights, open through October 25, and the free Sideline Stage at Morongo in Cabazon hosts Groove Society on Friday and Saturday evening (Oct 16-17), a relaxed live-music stop on the way home from the desert. Here is a friendly, family-first look at the weekend ahead, plus a quick RED Friday reminder and a gentle note that event details can change, so always confirm with the organizers.

Today is R.E.D. Friday

It's Friday, October 16, which means it's R.E.D. Friday: wear red and Remember Everyone Deployed. A simple red shirt, hat, or ribbon is a visible way to honor the men and women serving overseas and the families waiting for them here at home.

Around the Pass this weekend

A couple of other favorites are happening around the San Gorgonio Pass area this weekend, each one a nice excuse to get out and soak up the season.

90th Annual Pioneer Days · Twentynine Palms

The signature high desert celebration marks its 90th year with the theme "A Century in the Making: Celebrating 100 Years." Highlights this weekend include the Pioneer Days Parade on Saturday, October 17, the Pioneer Days 5K Fun Run on Sunday (Luckie Park), the famous Outhouse Races, and the Classic Car & Motorcycle Show on Sunday at the 29 Palms Historic Plaza. A fun, quirky desert weekend about 60 miles east on Highway 62 that pairs perfectly with a Joshua Tree National Park visit.

Modernism Week October · Palm Springs

The fall edition of Modernism Week runs October 15-18 with 50+ midcentury modern tours, home-and-garden events, and design experiences across Palm Springs, plus the new Fall Dining Series spotlighting the desert's best restaurants and after-dark programming. Tickets are available at modernismweek.com. Just 30 minutes east of the Pass Area on I-10, it is a picture-perfect fall weekend getaway.

Groove Society at Morongo · Cabazon

The free Sideline Stage at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa hosts Groove Society on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17. A low-key, no-ticket live-music option just 10 minutes west of the Pass Area on I-10, and a good reason to make a Cabazon evening of it before the big fall concerts resume.

My favorite kind of weekend

I've called the Pass Area home long enough to know fall here is special, and this weekend is one of the best of the season. You can run the carnival games and haunted maze at Beaumont's Monster Mash, catch a Halloween play at the Banning Woman's Club, cheer the Outhouse Races at the 90th Pioneer Days in Twentynine Palms, or wander the midcentury streets of Palm Springs during Modernism Week, then end the evening among half a million lights at 123 Farm, all of it showing off the neighbors, music, and community spirit that make the Pass Area home.

Beaumont Life exists to help you find these moments, whether you've lived here for decades or you're just exploring the area as a future home. If you head out this weekend, enjoy every minute. And if you're ever thinking about buying or selling a home in the Pass Area, I'd be honored to help.
